STUDENTS FROM THE GESHER (BRIDGES) PROGRAM MEET WITH MAYOR PARISE TO ENSURE SAFETY FOR PEDESTRIANS

Students at the Kulanu Center for Special Services cross Central Avenue several times daily to take advantage of mainstream opportunities over at HAFTR High School. On Election Day, Kulanu students took action to ensure the safety of all pedestrians. Each student penned a letter to Mayor Parise describing the danger in crossing this intersection and made suggestions to repair the problem. Students from the Gesher (Bridges) program, Ephraim, Yoni and Jack met with the Mayor and hand delivered their letters. After reviewing the students’ cause, Mayor Parise agreed to re-paint the crosswalk lines and paint a large "School Crossing" on the ground. In addition, he plans to contact the 4th precinct to request a Crossing Guard. The Mayor also proposed contacting the Nassau County office about the possibility of installing a traffic light at the corner.

What a real world experience in civic responsibilities!
