Kulanu Academy’s Middle School program provides a structured environment where students with moderate to significant disabilities are able to benefit from an individualized program designed to maximize their potential in an integrative setting. Students with cognitive, behavioral, emotional and social challenges are provided a combination of whole class, small group and individualized instruction. Multiple placement options include: 1:1 instruction, self contained classes, structured intensive behavioral support classes and integrated classes where students participate in the various aspects of a mainstream program with support. Our program encourages integration and inclusion for every student where appropriate, based on the individual needs of the student.
The Middle School program provides differentiated instruction as well as service learning/experiential learning in community based settings. While the academic and career development curriculum is aligned with New York State standards, Kulanu Academy stresses real world application throughout the instructional day. Students enjoy opportunities to explore the “world of work” through organized trips that focus on career directed cluster areas such as retail, health/helping professions, culinary arts, among others.
